Seventh Grade Class Overview
Seventh grade is an exciting year for our Riverhill students. Students move from class to class for the first time. They may have as many as 6 or 7 teachers. Elective classes allow for exploration of individual interests. Students find required classes to be challenging and exciting, with a wide variety of activities. Seventh grade travels to Dauphin Island Sea Lab to learn about the estuary located off Mobile, Alabama. This is a unique, weeklong trip that allows students to explore a remarkable habitat through a hands-on squid dissection, an outing on the Sea Labs' research vessel, beach walks, marsh outings, and a trip through the Estuarium.
Our literature classes concentrate on learning the specific vocabulary and concepts associated with all genres of literature. We apply these concepts to the novels, short stories, poetry, and drama that we read in order to gain a greater appreciation of literature.
Our middle school math program is designed to build sequential skills necessary for success in current and future
advanced math programs. Students are encouraged to apply math concepts to real life situations in order to better see the importance of math in their lives.
