English / Reading
The joy of the written word is central to Riverhill’s language arts program. Reading, writing, and the examination of good literature are balanced with creativity. The Open Court ® program is utilized in Pre-Kindergarten through second grades. In middle school grades, the students add novel studies with a focus on literary analysis. Personal journals are kept at many grade levels. Students study grammar and learn to write analytically as their vocabularies grow. Riverhill teachers believe in interdisciplinary writings (art, math, social studies) and use a variety of approaches to achieve student success.
Foreign Language
There’s nothing foreign to Riverhill students about languages! The study of French begins in Pre-Kindergarten so that students develop an ear for new sounds and pronunciations. French is fun and so are French games, foods, and customs. Our students have the opportunity to obtain high school credit for French I by the end of middle school. Riverhill graduates are encouraged to take advanced levels of language in high school.
