Kindergarten

Riverhill’s kindergarten is a kaleidoscope in that it is made up of individual children who are constantly interacting, changing, and learning. The kindergartners at Riverhill learn to look “outside their boxes”. In addition to the normal kindergarten curriculum, the students learn to be independent, caring, and responsible citizens who look at the world around them with a new and fresh appreciation. Classroom activities focus on helping others through our Community Service Projects such as our annual Bottled Water Collection for the St. Florian Police Department and our annual visits to a local assisted living facility. Not only do the students grow academically and physically in kindergarten, they also develop life skills that lead to lifelong learning experiences.

The highlight of the day for many students is the afternoon class meeting where they have the opportunity to speak “publicly” about what matters to them. Topics may include interests of the day, their families, places they have been – the list is endless. This time allows each child the chance to be the focus for a few minutes. It also helps build confidence and communication skills.

Parents are encouraged to visit the Kindergarten classroom to share their passions and talents. They may share about their profession, do science experiments, teach about their family heritage, or share a craft. These 30-minutes sessions are a wonderful opportunity for all.
